Dolphin behavior, intelligence and communication.....

There has been a lot of research on the behavior of dolphins. It seems that they have a lot in common with humans. If a dolphin is given a mirror to see itself, it pays attention to its looks. If for example, a black circle is stuck to its side, it will look at it with disgust. A dolphin is a very highly intelligent being.
If "intelligence" was simply determined by absolute brain size, there would be no difficulty in deciding which species was on top. The brain of the bottlenosed dolphin weighs more than that of a human adult!
Structurally the cerebral cortex is similar to that of man, but in addition the brain has evolved a very complex structure in relation to the reception and interpretation of sound.

Experiments show that the bottlenosed dolphin is able to distinguish between a piece of dead fish and an object of exactly the same shape, using sound alone. It is assumed that cetaceans can detect differences in the reflection and absorption of soundwaves by different materials. the variety of sounds used by some cetaceans is legion.. The use of sounds is very important to the dolphins. They create echoes to gather information about the general topography of an area, to locate food and to give warning of enemies. They use it to keep in contact with members of their own species, and to communicate with others. Here you will learn more about their intelligence, their social behavior and the communication.
