FOOD
Killer
whales have voracious appetites and are not particularly fussy about their
diet.
Although
they prefer other cetaceans, pinnipeds, and penguins, they will take fish
and squid.
Prey
maybe swallowed whole, or if too large, first torn into large pieces.
Even
the shark is no match for the killer whale which in only too happy to put
it on the menu if
one
appears.
In
spite of their ferocity, killer whales have rarely, if ever, attacked man!
Occasionally, due
to
curiosity, they have upturned a boat, but have left the struggling humans
in peace.
Since
they are afraid of shallow water, they are no danger to swimmers, unlike
sharks!
